Yasunori Matsui, born in Kobe, Japan, has been based in Louisville, KY, since the summer of 2023. From 2012 to 2015, Matsui photographed landscapes affected by wildfires in collaboration with the Alaska National Park Service Fire Management, which led to the initiation of the Earth Frame Project in 2019. This project reflects observations of natural lifecycles and civilization’s impacts on nature, as mirrored in landscapes altered by both linear and non-linear events of Mother Nature and human activities during a period of rapid change on our planet, Earth.

Matsui’s belief in the infinite capabilities of visual language through physical installations is reflected in his commitment to presenting the project as curated experiences, showcased exclusively through printed images. This approach enhances audience engagement in contrast to the current trends widely embraced on digital platforms, which are driven by ever-evolving technology. His vision, combined with the technical expertise and knowledge gained from his professional experiences, aims to capture the adaptability and resilience of nature, which operates on ecological cycles significantly longer than those of humanity. This mission is one he intends to pass on to future generations.
